  • Thursday, March 29 at Quincy Colockum Ridge Golf Course

Chelan golfers continued their improvement today at Quincy's Colockum Ridge GC. Medalist for the boys, shooting a hot 2-over par 73 went to Quincy's Trajan Trevino, followed closely by Chelan's Corbin Morley with a 77, Miles Grossberg with a 78, and Seth Hannu with an 82.  Chelan's boys took the team honors by 8 strokes with a 337 to Quincy's 345.
Quincy's Stacia Sarty took medalist honors for the girls with a 91, but Chelan's girls took team honors as Quincy did not have enough varsity girls scores for a team score.
Overall, Chelan golfers continue to make vast improvements, both girls and boys, each time they go out.  After our top 3 boys, the next three came in today at 100 (JD Gonzalez in his first varsity match, 21 strokes better than his score on Tuesday), 101 (Jeremy Avery, 26 strokes better than Tuesday), and 102 (Ainsley Pehrson, 13 stroke improvement).  For the girls, Emily Christenson shot a 105 (4 stroke improvement from Tuesday), Kaylin Boykin 107 (7 stroke improvement), Andrea Villa 114 (13 stroke improvement), and Katie Rainville 121 (12 stroke improvement).  It's very exciting to see these kinds of improvements and I hope that our golfers are all encouraged by the progress they are each making (with the JV golfers making the same kinds of improvements as well).
Chelan will be taking the next week off from matches during our Easter/spring break and return to action with two home league matches on April 10 and 12.

  • Saturday, March 31 Versus Omak Pioneers

Chelan baseball team took the field on Saturday after a long week of spirited practice to earn two lopsided wins versus a dedicated and committed Omak Pioneer baseball team.
The Chelan bats were alive all day, rapping out 31 hits in the CTL double header. Game one featured three hits apiece for Colt Corrigan, Quinn Stamps and Drake Bird, plus a long home run by Breckin Sporseen.  All other starters contributed at least one hit each in the offensive hit parade. On the mound, Connor Wilson and Drake Bird combined to allow only one hit and one run to earn the game one victory.
In game two, the Chelan bats continued to be hot, with Colt Corrigan belting a home run, and Breckin Sporseen adding his second home run for the day.  Kenny Reeves, Gage Estes, Bryson Darlington each added two hits apiece in the offensive outpouring.
Sam Austin earned the win on the mound, going the distance, allowing only two hits and one run.
Next up:  Friday, April 6, 4:30 at home, a non-league game against a strong 2A opponent from Blaine.

We didn't have a number of our kids do their main events this past Thursday. We wanted to make sure that we honored our Senior Boys and had a good time as well. With that being said, I look forward watching our boys continue to get better and perform better each time out.

Same as the boys, we held back a some of the girls and had some fun before we got to Spring Break. Thank you again for taking the time to come to our meet and watch our kids compete. I hope that you get the opportunity to come and watch at other meets as well.
We look forward to Spring Break, a time to reflect and get energized, before we start the stretch run of SCHOOL and Regular Season for Track. We have a busy schedule coming up. We have three invitationals over three weekends and with two track meets per week; It will make for a busy month of April. That is also what makes it fun.
I hope to see you all at the Brewster Relays on the Tuesday that we get back from Break. April 10, 4 p.m.

  • Monday, March 26 at Waterville

Manson  11  Waterville 12
The Trojans returned to Waterville on Monday for the second matchup of the season with the Shockers.  The previous Tuesday, the Trojans traveled to Waterville and took the game 15-7.
Junior Jose Pascasio drew the start for the Trojans and looked to pick up where he left off last Tuesday in Waterville when he was outstanding for 3 innings of relief work, striking out 5.
Freshman Caden Beazley was the starting catcher for the Trojans.
Pascasio struggled early and pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 7 hits, using 53 pitches, striking out 2 and walking 3.
Pitching in relief was Avery Thompson who did well going 3 1/3 innings, using 66 pitches, striking out 6, walking 4 and giving up 3 runs.
Pascasio returned to the hill to pitch again but was soon relieved by senior Zach Serafini.
Serafini went 3 1/3 innings, using 61 pitches, striking out 3, giving up 2 runs, on 3 hits.  Serafini got out of a big jam with two outs in a tied 8th inning after an intentional walk loaded the bases, the Trojans played a five-man infield, and a Shocker hit a weak fly ball and the second baseman Jake Lodwig hauled it in to keep the Trojans alive for another inning.
Offensively for the Trojans’ Avery Thompson lead the way going 4/5 with a double and 4 RBI’s. Thompson added two nice stolen bases against one of the best catchers in our league.  Zach Serafini had a big RBI hit with a swinging bunt that put the Trojans ahead in extra innings, but the Trojans couldn’t hang on in the end and gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Trojans with hits were Avery Thompson (4, 2B), Bryan Bernardo, Zach Serafini (2), Bryce La Mar.
At times, the Trojans played without focus and lost the game due to several key mental errors.  A very difficult loss to accept while recording only 1 error on the board.
The game’s web gem came in the bottom of the 7th when a Shocker drove a ball deep into the dim light of right field and Trojan sophomore Bryce La Mar with his back against the wall, made an outstanding catch.
Pitch Counts:
Jose Pascasio: 53
Avery Thompson: 66
Zach Serafini: 61
Manson’s Overall Record: 2-2

Softball

  • Thursday, March 29 at Waterville

The Lady Trojan softball team travelled to Waterville on Thursday, for Manson’s second game of the season and came up short with a final score of 4-27.
Although it doesn’t reflect so in the score- the Trojans celebrated several of their own successes including 12 stolen bases and some great defensive plays.
Scoring runs for the Trojans were Veronica Lulo, Melanie Marin, Salena Joiner and Libbey Ireland.
Melanie Marin racked up the only Trojan hit on the day and Salena had the only RBI.
Defensively, Melanie Marin fielded a ground ball for a solo play at first and Mara Vargas had two great plays at the plate from a 3rd strike dropped ball tag out and a hustle play for an out off a passed ball. Libbey Ireland also had a deep infield catch.
