Chelan High School Golf wrap - week of April 12

Golf Results April 12 (Quincy Pod)
Chelan High School Golf team traveled to Quincy’s Colockum Ridge Golf Course for their first match in over a year.  The match started  with sunny mild weather but quickly became a cold windy afternoon of golf (it’s spring, right?!)
Chelan brought three returning players (all boys) to the match, and the rest were all “newbies” to the golf program, but excited to see some action for the first time!
On the boys side, Chelan’s Miles Grossberg (Sr) and Joey Gasper (Jr) tied for medalist honors, each shooting a 6-over 77 for the day.  Miles had 1 birdie on the day and played quite consistent, while Joey had several eagle opportunities and came away with 4 birdies. The next closest players shot 82s.
Chelan’s Arabelle Finch (fr) came in 4th for our best scorer on the girls side with a 119, and teeammate Elly Collins (Sr) tied for 6th with a 124.  This was the first high school match for either of them.
Neither Chelan girls nor boys varsity teams had enough players to have a team score.  Quincy boys team took honors with a 403, beating Cascade’s team by 7 strokes.  There were no team scores for the other girls teams either.

Golf Results April 14 (Gamble Sands)
Chelan hosted the Gamble Sands Invitational April 14 with a reduced field of only regional teams (both boys and girls) participating.  The wind was much more than predicted, which made for some tough golfing situations, and lots of blowing dust as a result of the fire that went through last year (though with all the green grass, the only real visible evidence of the fire were the areas missing the sagebrush that used to be in some of the areas) though the temperatures were much more pleasant than our Monday match.
Congratulations to Ephrata for winning the boys team division, with a very respectable 353 team score, followed closely by Wenatchee (360).  The boys medalist was Jacob Rawley from Ephrata with a 78, followed by Carson Huffaker from Wenatchee (82) and Chelan’s Joey Gasper (jr) with an 84.
On the girls side of things, Wenatchee won the team score with a 419 and, quite literally and figuratively, left everyone else who was able to post a team score “in the dust!”  Another Ephrata golfer, Payton Hagy, took medalist honors with a 94, followed by Omak’s Halle Richter (98) and Wenatchee’s Presley Nelson (100).
We look forward to hosting this tournament again next year, and continue to be excited to give our golfers a chance to play on a course rated for the past several years as one of the top 100 courses in the USA.  Many thanks to my assistant, Amber Finch, for doing another great job of organizing and running this tournament.
Chelan’s next match was April 20 at their home course, Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course.
