EPHRATA - The Goats baseball team advanced to the state tournament Tuesday evening by virtue of a 12-0 thumping of the Quincy Jackrabbits at Obrien/Johnson Stadium in Ephrata. It is the 3rd straight district title for the Goats, in addition to their 36th consecutive wins over Caribou Trail League opponents.  The Goats were fired up for this one, as they were looking to punch their ticket to the State tournament, and did so, in convincing fashion.

Junior left hander Braiden Boyd was handed the ball on the mound for the critical showdown, and he responded with his third no hitter of the season, striking out 11, using only 61 pitches to dominate the Jacks in the “mercy rule” shortened game. Boyd’s record for the season now stands at 9 wins, no losses.

On offense, it was Boyd again, going 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 doubles and 4 rbi’s.  It was a total team effort, with the Goats amassing 11 hits.  Ethan Strandberg going 2 for 3 with 2 rbi’s, Colt Funk 2-3 with 2 rbi’s, and Reed Stamps adding 3 rbi’s with a long double.

The Goats now wait for the State Committee to determine the exact location and opponent for the regionals. Given their 19-3 record, and strength of non-league opponents, the Goats are hopeful for a favorable draw. That decision will be announced sometime Sunday afternoon (May 15). If possible, mark your calendars to plan on attending their next games. This is an exciting, and talented group of young men focused on bringing home the State Title.

Next Up: State Tournament Saturday, May 21. Location: TBA. Go Goats.

CHELAN - Today was a highlight for our track program. We had four javelin throwers place in the top three and two of them won a CTL championship.

Ryan Allen came out and took first place in the Javelin with a throw of 131 feet 10 inches. Aliyah Finch took first place with a monster throw of 105 feet 10 inches.  Finch also took second in the shot put and third in the discus. Teegan Silvia had a big day taking first place in the mile with a time of 5:39.89 and third place in the 400. Tyler Fogoloson had a great performance in the 400 taking second place along with Cray Silva taking second place in the mile as a sophomore.

Other top finishers include: Jason Pritchard second place in the Javelin and fourth in the discus. Peyton Bodle took third in the javelin with a throw of 92 feet 10 inches.

Thursday, May 19 is the final track meet of the regular  season. We will travel to Cashmere for our district meet, with the top one from each event getting an automatic bid into the All Class State Track meet in Spokane.

Chelan traveled to Suncadia in Roslyn, today for the annual tournament (not held the last three years) hosted by Ellensburg High School.  We returned to play on the Prospector Course, which we haven’t been on for quite some time now (as we have played on the Rope Rider course for many years prior to today).

The Chelan boys did quite well for themselves today, taking 3rd place in a field of eight teams, being beaten only by 3A schools Bellevue and Interlake.  Carson Clinton tied for 2nd place with a 3-over par 75 on a sunny but very windy day.  Teammate Joey Gasper came in 11th out of 37 total golfers with an 86, and teammate Duke Nordby had a personal best 95 for the day.

For the girls, we only brought two girls, but they both did very respectable, with Arabelle Finch shooting a 110 for 8th place (out of 26 golfers) and teammate Kira Sandoval coming in 10th with a 113.

This was a course with very fast greens, and was a good tuneup for our CTL Championships and state qualifier in Quincy this week Tuesday, May 17, which also had some very fast greens the last time we played there.
