ROYAL - The Chelan Mountain Goats headed out on the road tonight to face the Royal Knights in the Goats final non-league contest of the season.
The Goats are coming off of a home game vs. the number 13th ranked Zillah Leopards in which they played well in many aspects but were edged off by 9 points.
Head Coach Nick Longmire said. “We are playing our best basketball right now. We are at the point where we could turn the corner if we can control our turnovers, finish at the rim and convert at the free throw line.”
The Goats came out ready to play against an aggressive Knight defense. Despite finishing 25% from the free throw line they found themselves in the lead 11-9 at the end of the 1st quarter.
In the second quarter the free throw shooting got better but still held the Goats back from really taking a commanding lead. The score at the half was 23-18 Goats.
The Goats came out of the locker room continuing to battle. The game was full of fast breaks, press breaks and full court pressure putting the Mountain Goats in foul trouble and fatigue. The Goats prevailed and increased their lead to seven as they entered the fourth quarter.
The only quarter the Goats were out scored in was the fourth but the Goats had enough of a lead to hold off the Knights by three in the final seconds of the game by burning the clock. The final score of the game was 42-45 as the Goats finished victorious.
Freshman Brynn Hughbanks led the Goats in scoring with 10. Kira Sandoval and Arabelle Finch each had nine. Other scores included Reinhart seven, Perez four, Joslynn Simmons three, Jayci Simmons three.
