OMAK - Tonight the Lady Mountain Goats traveled to faceoff against the Omak Pioneers in what was their second meeting of three this season. The Goats desperately needed a win against the Pioneers in order to keep alive their hopes of a second place finish in the league.
Chelan was without their starting Senior Post, Juliana Perez with an ankle injury, their Freshman starting Point Guard with a knee injury and two key players off the bench, Freshman Jayci Simmons (ankle) and Freshman Marley Williams (sick).
The Goats had their work cut out for them but had been working on some new looks against Omak after losing to them by nine in their first meeting. Right off the bat the Goats found themselves struggling against the Pioneer backcourt pressure and turned the ball over many times before finding some success breaking the pressure but not before the Pioneers kicked the game off with a 14-0 start. The Mountain Goats were able to finish off the last few minutes of the quarter getting to the free throw line and finishing around the rim. The score at the end of the first quarter was Omak 20, Chelan 9.
The Goats hung with the Pioneers more in the second quarter but were still outscored 10-12. At the half the Pioneers led the game 32-19.
It was in the second half that the Mountain Goats left it all on the floor and outscored the Pioneers 12-9 cutting into the lead but still back by 10.
The Goats knew they had to have a big quarter and limit the Pioneers in order to give them a chance at a win. The Lady Goats rallied their way back and found themselves down by four late in the game. Despite a big 21 point quarter the Goats couldn’t finish the game with a victory. The final score of the game was Omak 56, Chelan 52.
All scores were led by Junior, Arabelle Finch with 18 followed by Joslynn Simmons and Jailyn Reinhart each with 11. Kira Sandoval added 10 and Jayden Simmons contributed 2.
The Goats played Saturday night in a non-league retro game at the Community Gym against the Tonasket Tigers.

Chelan 18, Cashmere 56

Jan. 9
WENATCHEE - Monday night the Chelan Mountain Goats traveled to Wenatchee to face the Cashmere Bulldogs at the Town Toyota Center in what was their second meeting of the season.
The Mountain Goats got off to a great start taking the lead early on before the Bulldogs tied it back up at eight midway through the first quarter.
After taking a timeout and coming out in a full court press the Bulldogs were relentless with their pressure. The Mountain Goats had trouble getting the ball into their press break and by halftime the score was 34-11 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Mountain Goats were able to keep most of the Bulldogs at bay other than Kaitlyn Bjorkland who put up 18 points in the first half and 24 for the game.
“Despite the lopsided loss we had some good things that took place that we need to continue to build upon. Our half court pressure and defense against their inbound plays went well for us. Cashmere’s full court pressure is what gave our kids the most problems tonight,” shared Coach Nick Longmire.
Junior Arabelle Finch led the Mountain Goats with seven on the night. Sandoval four, Williams four, and Reinhart three.
The Mountain Goats faced another CTL matchup on Friday, Jan. 13 against Omak.
