Chelan High School Varsity Volleyball

Posted

CHELAN - A welcoming addition to Chelan High Volleyball is head coach Abby Phelps. Here is a Q and A about this upcoming season:

Returning Players: Four players will be returning this year, seniors Jamie Beckel and Morgyn Harrison, junior, Olivia Strandberg and sophomore, Sasha Dandridge.
Thoughts on Toughest Teams: “So far, Wenatchee is one-one this season but they finished 1st in the 4A Columbia Basin Big-9 District last year but also, Lakeside and Freeman will be difficult.” Lakeside is currently 7th and Freeman is 1st in the 1A Northeast League. The Goats currently sit at 1st in the 1A Caribou Trail District,'' said Phelps.
Standouts: When asked if Phelps had any standouts in this year’s roster she said, “Oh yes!” with excitement, “Olivia Strandberg, our Outside Hitter and Morgyn Harrison, our Libero. Both girls are quite the asset to this team.''
Comments and outlook on this season: “These girls are not only talented, gifted athletes they are great team mates and people,” Phelps proudly stated. “Win or lose that is the most prized. Expect to see us at the State Tournament,” Phelps says with a smile.
Phelps is a 2014 Chelan High graduate and is excited to be coming home and coaching the Chelan Goats. Phelps attended Western Washington University (WWU) where she graduated in June of 2019 with a degree in Elementary Education and now teaches at Morgen Owings Elementary School. During her career at WWU she was the all-time leader in WWU and Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) history with 1,628 kills and 1,853 points. She was also listed as 3rd in WWU history with 1,915 career digs, 7th in GNAC history, became the second player in conference history to earn four First Team All-GNAC awards and was a two-time GNAC Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. Phelps also became the fourth player in WWU and 14th in GNAC history to join the 1,000-kill and 1,000-dig club. With a distinguished history and volleyball expertise Phelps is the perfect fit to bring our Goats to victory.
