Chelan Varsity Girls Basketball vs Omak

The Chelan Mountain Goats traveled to Wenatchee High School to face Omak in a loser out game on Monday night. The last six games between the Pioneers and the Mountain Goats have been nailbiters. Tonight proved to be no different.
Chelan came out with a brand new game plan in the face of the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. “We had to show something different and exploit our strengths. The goal was to create some movement in the post, open up driving lanes while still complementing the outside perimeter shot. Friday we put in a whole new offense,” said Chelan Coach Nick Longmire.
The first Quarter started out much better defensively for the Mountain Goats compared to previous meetings between the two teams. The Mountain Goats held the Pioneers to just 5 points while putting up 8 for themselves. The goats had a big second quarter by putting up 16 points offensively including four shots from the premier from Harrison, Sandoval and Reinhart. The Goats entered halftime with an 8 point lead, 24-16.
The Mountain Goats came out of the locker room with a goal to protect the lead they had but were outscored 8-4 giving the Goats a 28-24 lead going into the final quarter.
The Mountain Goats found themselves down by 8 with about 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Following a timeout the Goats regrouped and found themselves knocking down a couple of 3 point shots and dropping some free throws putting them 1 point short of tying the game up. A jump ball off of a missed shot put the Mountain Goats under their own hoop with .7 seconds left on the clock. After a timeout the Goats had one last opportunity to seal the game. The Mountain Goats executed the inbound play perfectly but the layup fell just short giving the victory to the Pioneers and abruptly ending the season for the Mountain Goats.
“I was very proud of how our team did not give up even after giving up a 12 point lead at one point. The team could have succumbed to the frustrations but they dug deep and chipped their way back into it. Our team has had a lot of adversity this year. Despite that they laid it all out on the floor tonight and for that they should be proud,” Longmire continued.
Kira Sandoval led all Chelan scores with 12, followed by Aliyah Finch with 9, Joslynn Simmons and Morgan Harrison with 6 each, Jailyn Reinhart with 3 and Arabelle Finch with 2.
Goats final record - 14-8 overall.
