CHS hosts 1st Annual Recognition of Collegiate Athletes

Colt Corrigan, Maritza Blanco, Quinn Stamps and Lexie Gleasman were acknowledged during the 1st Annual Recognition of Collegiate Athletes on May 21 at Chelan High School.

Colt Corrigan - Whitworth University - Baseball Colt will be attending Whitworth University to play baseball. Colt began playing baseball around the age of five.  After many years in Chelan, he went on to play with kids from all over our area on a team in Brewster. Colt also played in Moses Lake for the River Dogs, and then played for the CREW based out of Spokane where they won multiple regional tournaments. One of his proudest moments over the years was in baseball when they swept Cashmere. Colt’s awards include an Honorable Mention for Football, 2nd team All-League baseball his freshman year and the last three years he earned 1st team All-League.

Maritza Blanco - Wenatchee Valley College - Soccer Maritza will be attending Wenatchee Valley College to play soccer.  Maritza started her soccer days very early running around her yard at the age of three with a basketball. Then around six or seven years old she starting watching YouTube videos on soccer to learn how to juggle and beat out defenders.  She remembers getting to play on an AAU team in fifth grade, but was on her own again in middle school and would play with the boys because she knew it would make her a better/stronger player.  Maritza always knew soccer would be an important part of her life but her love for the game grew after reading a book about Mia Hamm and watching Carli Lloyd. Maritza has received two All- League 2nd team awards, Chelan Athlete of the Week, team MVP and 1st team All-League this year.

Quinn Stamps - College of the Canyons - Football Quinn will be attending College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita,CA., playing football and baseball.  Quinn started playing tackle football in second grade for the Chelan Youth Football Program where he claims they won a lot of games, possibly undefeated over the years. Not only has he played football most of his life but also basketball and baseball.  Quinn has been on multiple club teams across the state and one of his most memorable moments included attending the Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana this past summer. While there, he met the entire Manning family. Quinn is a three sport athlete, receiving honorable mention awards, 1st and 2nd team All-League awards in basketball and football, three 1st team All–League awards for baseball, a League Championship and two District Championships.

Lexie Gleasman - University of Montana - Volleyball Lexie will be attending University of Montana and playing volleyball.  Lexie played volleyball at a very young age, but started organized sports in seventh grade and during this time she was a manager for the high school volleyball team. She started indoor club playing for NCWVBC out of Wenatchee.  Lexie then went on to play indoor and sand volleyball for local Kahiau club team and ended Club last year in Spokane with College Prep Academy Extreme under the coaching of Wade Benson.  Lexie is a three sport four year Varsity athlete. Over the last four years she has earned three 2nd team All-League awards, five 1st team All-league Awards, a 2nd team All-State tournament team award, League MVP award for volleyball,  1st team All-State and 1st team 1A All State tournament team recognition.  

CHELAN - Chelan Athletic Booster Club and The Chelan Coaches Association  recognized  four Chelan High School athletes  who will be continuing their athletic journey in college.  The presentation was held on Tuesday, May 21 in the High School Commons. Evan Reister, CHS graduate and former collegiate athlete, was the Master of Ceremonies. He introduced each athlete and shared their accomplishments with family, friends and community  members present.  Continuing their journey in college sports are;  Maritza Blanco (soccer), Quinn Stamps (football), Colt Corrigan (baseball) and Lexie Gleasman (volleyball). The four excelled academically as well, they will be graduating with honors, high honors and Corrigan will be giving the Salutatorian speech this upcoming June
