CHELAN – All-League basketball standouts from the 1A Caribou Trail League (CTL) and the Central Washington 2B (CWB) League met in the first-ever all-star games in Chelan’s Community Gym, March 13, as some of the two leagues’ best players representing 14 schools squared off for a good cause.
The event’s principal organizer, Jeff Pearl, said he was pleased with the number of all-stars who participated. Pearl said of the 46 players invited, 43 agreed to play. Among those were Brewster Lady Bears senior Abi Boesel and sophomore Morgan McGuire.
Coaches of the Year selected from both leagues switched roles for the All-Star games.
CTL girls’ coach Brent Darnell of Cashmere took on the CTL boys and the CWB girls’ coach Steve Nygreen of Manson handled the boys’ team.
Quincy boys coach Scott Bierlink took charge of the CTL girls and Lake Roosevelt boys’ coach Jeremy Crollard mentored the CWB girls.
In both the girls’ and boys’ games, the CWB teams emerged on top at the conclusion of two 20-minute halves. The CWB girls won their game 62-50 while the CWB boys survived a late-game CTL effort and won by two points, 133-131.
