Entiat Tigers track and field looking to win regionals

Posted

ENTIAT - Julie Cannon along with her coaching staff are back for another season with the Entiat High School track team.

The team this year is composed of 36 students, 15 of them girls and 21 boys. “We are looking pretty good, we think we can cover most events,” said coach Cannon.

The Tigers have been waiting to hit the track as the snow continues to melt throughout the area. “It’s been tough we have been doing what we can, but can’t do the things we would like to do,” she explained.

Last year, the boys finished fourth in state and were regional and district champions. On the girls side, last year the Lady Tigers were district champs. “We had a very successful year, last year,” said coach.

Cannon’s expectations for this year is for both teams to repeat as district champs. “If we do not have any serious injuries both teams should be competing for the regionals championship,”she added.

The boys’ team is well rounded, the Tigers have, “good distance runners, good sprinters, good throwers, good jumpers.” The Lady Tigers have to fill some holes here and there however, they already “have experienced relays, experienced throwers.”

Weather permitting, the Tigers will hit the track as they visit Eastmont High School on Tuesday, March 26.
