Posted

TACOMA - The Goats punched their ticket to the State Final Four by winning two games in Tacoma on Saturday,May 18.

Game one featured Sam Austin getting the start on the mound, earning his 7th win of the season, and Drake Bird closing out the game for a 5 -2 win over a well prepared Hoquiam Grizzlie ballclub. The offense was lead by Cade Christopherson with 2 hits, and Bryson Darlington who launched a 2 run home run in the bottom of the third. Connor Wilson added two hits in the hard fought playoff battle.

Game two featured another difficult test for the Goats, as the scrappy Overlake Owls jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the Goats. Connor Wilson got the start on the mound and battled through 2 and 2 thirds innings to keep the Owls offense in check. Wilson was relieved by Quinn Stamps, who slammed the door shut, allowing no runs on just one hit.

The powerfull Goat offense overcame a slow start to eventually put the game away by a score of 9 -2. Cade Christopherson had three hits, Gage Estes added 4 hits, and Breckin Sporseen had two hits and three RBIs. Estes and Drake Bird each homered in the game, bringing the teams season total to 18.

The Goats would like to thank all the members of the Chelan Community for their continued monetary, emotional, and physical support as we navigate the challenging state playoff process. It was noted that it felt like a home game for the Goats, as hundreds of fans travelled to Tacoma to root us on. Believe us, we feel it.

Next up:  the final four,  first game Friday, 10 a.m. vs University Prep at Yakima County Stadium.

Editors note: If the Goats beat University Prep, they will play the winner of the Seattle Christian and Colville game for first place. If they lose, they will play the loser of that game for third place.
