Goats softball win one, lose one to end season

Posted

CHELAN - The Chelan Goats softball season is officially over.

After defeating Cashmere by a final score of 5-2 on Saturday, the Goats fell by a score of 5-0 against Omak, ending their season.

Everything looked good at first as Chelan plated a couple runs in the first inning against Cashmere and Taylor Sams - back from her knee injury - was pitching effectively.

Sams earned the win after throwing seven innings while giving up two runs on five hits and striking out two.

Nayeli Zavala, Julia Horlebein and Lexie Gleasman each drove in one run to lead Chelan. The Goats were solid on the defensive side as well as they didn’t commit a singe error in the field. Ashley Oswald led the team with five chances.

In the second game, Chelan wasn’t as fortunate against Rhaney Harris, who is one of the top pitchers in the league.

Harris blanked the Goats after tossing seven strong innings, surrendering zero runs on three hits while striking out 11 batters and walking one.

Sams was hit with the loss after going 4 and one-third innings, while giving up five runs on seven hits and striking out two. Sams, Katanna Kelling and Lexie Gleasman all had one hit to lead Chelan.

“We could not be more proud of how our young ladies played today in the playoffs,” head coach Jeff Barker said after the game. “They played great defense with only two errors in 14 innings and Sams and Leanna Garfoot were outstanding in the circle for us all day. We faced the two best pitchers in the league and we struggled a bit offensively. When we hit the ball hard it was right at someone, so sometimes it just goes that way and some great pitching shut us down today. Our girls should be very proud of how they represented Chelan. Thanks for a great season.”

Chelan finished with a (10-12) record on the season.
