Lady Goats golf team wins District Championship, four total players qualify for state

CHELAN - The Chelan Golf teams competed in the League/District Championships at Gamble Sands Golf Course on Tuesday, May 16 for a chance to qualify for the State golf Tournament this week.

Cascade boys took the District won the tournament with a total score of 354. Chelan came in second with a 393. The top seven boys, which included Goats junior Corbin Morley, earned a spot to the state tournament held at Sunwillows Golf Club in Pasco this week.

The Chelan girl’s team took league and district honors with a combined score of 379. Of the five girls that qualified for state, three of them were Goats Myranda Evans (90), Annika Nolen (92) and Madi Harrison (95).

Harrison got the fifth and final sport after beating Cascade’s Jacelyn Bain in the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. State for the girls will be held at Horn Rapids Golf Club in West Richland.

“I’m very proud of both of Chelan’s teams,” head coach Kirk Einspahr said in his match report. “The girls have had strong team performances all season long and it continued today. The boys, who had lost to Omak several times this year, came through with a second place finish today. Chelan was also voted by the coaches to receive the League Sportsmanship Award this season, and I’m most proud of that.”

Both state tournaments got under way with a practice round on Monday, May 22, and the first round of competition on Tuesday, May 23. Results were posted after press time.
