Lady Trojans softball end season

Posted

MANSON - The Manson Trojan Softball team played their final game of the 2019 season on Tuesday, May 7, at home against Waterville-Mansfield.

The game also served as Senior Night, as the Manson seniors played their last ever game on the Trojan’s home field.

Seniors are: Megan Clausen, Devyn Smith, Salena Joiner, Perla Villasenor, Alondra Chavez, Mara Vargas, Monse Villasenor, Diana Lopez, Esme Villa and Gladys Rodriguez.

In the game, the final score was Manson 3 - Waterville-Mansfield 16.
Freshman, Josephine Thompson was the starting pitcher, and Senior, Devyn Smith served as catcher. Both had a fantastic game.

Defensive highlights include 3 caught pop flys by catcher, Devyn Smith- along with a  great throw to 2nd to peg out a runner attempting to steal.

There were also a number of great catches by Senior, Salena Joiner at short stop, Josephine Thompson at pitcher, Melanie Marin in centerfield and Alexis Stotko at centerfield.

Offensively, the Trojans finished the game with 6 hits: Megan Clausen with a single and a double, Josephine Thompson with a double, Marylein Bernardo with a double, Devyn Smith with a single and Salena Joiner with a single.

The Trojans played a great game despite a rough 5th inning, when the Shockers scored 9 runs before the Trojans were able to get their 3 outs- and the Trojans were unable to recover.

Tuesday’s loss puts Manson in 7th place to end the season.

As we reflect on the season, there is much to celebrate including our 6 wins, our huge group of seniors, our growth in the game and the mark this group will leave on the Manson Trojan Softball program.

I am overflowing with pride for the season and this team.
