Manson softball defeats Soap Lake 26-13

SOAP LAKE - The Trojan softball team travelled to Soap Lake on Tuesday (April 9) for a league match up and won the game 26-13.
 

Sophomore, Alexis Stotko was the starting pitcher and struck out 5 batters, walked 6 and gave up 6 hits in 4 innings.

 Freshman, Josephine Thompson, pitched 2 innings- struck out 3 batters, walked 3 and gave up 4 hits.

 Devyn Smith was the Trojan catcher for the game.

 Defensive highlights include third baseman, Salena Joiner with a caught fly ball and two key plays. Paige Schoenwald had two caught fly balls and Raven Pope also caught a hard hit fly ball to center field.

 Offensively- the Trojans were aggressive running bases, resulting in 11 stolen bases. 
Monse Villasenor stepped on home plate 5 times for the Trojans and Paige Schoenwald scored 4 runs.

 Trojans with hits were Paige Schoenwald (3), Alexis Stotko (2), Stefany Luna (2), Mara Vargas (1), Josephine Thompson (1), Salena Joiner (1), Marylein Bernardo (1), and Devyn Smith (1).

 Tuesday’s win puts the Trojan league record at 3-3.
 

Manson loses to Pateros 8-18

PATEROS - The Trojan Softball team travelled to Pateros on Thursday (April 11) for a non-league match up and lost 8-18. The Trojans were leading in the 3rd inning- but after a rough 4th inning, Pateros took the lead and the Trojans could not recover.

Freshman, Josephine Thompson, was the starting pitcher for the Trojans, struck out 6, walked 5 and gave up 5 hits.

Freshman, Paige Schoenwald made her catching debut of the season, and worked hard- making great plays behind the plate.

Defensive highlights include 5 strikeouts in the first 2 innings by pitcher Josephine Thompson, along with a nice caught fly ball to end the inning.

Senior Perla Villasenor made a great catch on a foul ball at 3rd base for an out, followed by a great tag on a baserunner sliding in at 3rd.

Offensively, scoring runs for the Trojans were Salena Joiner (2), Lydia Cameron (2), Marylein Bernardo (2), Melanie Marin (1) and Raven Pope (1).

Trojans with hits were Marylein Bernardo (3), Josephine Thompson (2) and Perla Villasenor (2).

Overall, the game was a much closer match up than the score suggests- with a lot of great things coming from the Lady Trojans.
