An interview with Head Coach Erik Helleson

MANSON – Trojans Boys Basketball heads into the 2017-18 season after an overall record of 15-9 last season. Head Coach Erik Helleson came to Manson six years ago when teaching opportunities presented at Manson High School, Helleson now teaches science and his wife is a counselor at the Middle/High School.
Three key returners to look for on the Trojans are Eduardo Esclarera, Avery Thompson, and Joe Strecker, said Helleson, with all three at guard, they are all the “best outside shooters, best ball handlers, and they set the tone defensively,” he explained. This year’s team also has two rookie varsity players to watch for, brothers Caden and Cole Beazley. The Beazley brothers “both have spent a ton of time this summer in the gym, by themselves, improving both as athletes but also in the game. They both are going to be important guys coming off the bench, providing spark, defensively especially.”
“We have a lot of athletes (this year) that were in the shadows previously,” explained Helleson, “it’s going to be a little different, it’s going to be fast and up tempo, but I think we have a good chance to do some special things … we have great leaders, but we are also quick defensively.”
