MANSON – In a hosted matchup with Liberty Bell Mountain Lions, the Trojans forced a heavy defensive strategy against the Mountain Lions, leaving the visitors virtually powerless in the resulting outcome with the Trojans’ first win of the season, ending the game with a score of 3-0.
“A first half strike from Heriberto Sarmiento followed by two second half goals from Manson defender Eduardo Escalera ensured the victory,” explained Head Coach Jared Mumley, “Liberty Bell came out with their usual physicality and team organization and Manson had trouble finding good spells of possession in the midfield.” He continued by explaining that Manson’s defense showed tremendous accuracy and intensity and denied the Mountain Lions a score.  Goalkeeper Arturo Valdovinos was vital to the success of the game as well, with a total of five saves throughout the game. “The breakthrough came with Sarmiento, who received the ball near the top of the box and slapped the ball straight to the bottom right-hand corner of the goal giving the Trojans the 1-0 lead,” expressed Mumley. After halftime, Manson increased the intensity on the field, “however, it was the two special plays by senior captain Escalera which settled the game with long runs from deep within the Manson half,” he stated, “using his speed, Escalera raced passed the entire Liberty Bell defense and dispatched two well-placed goals to give the Trojans the victory.”
The 1-1 Trojans will be on the road next, taking on the Brewster Bears for their first league game of the season, Thursday, March 22.
