Beware of hungry wolves

City council works very hard and is to be commended. Grants fund the majority of their projects. Whether the grant is funded by a non-profit, or state or federal monies, the taxpayer foots the bill. Just, because it’s a nonprofit does not mean it can’t earn money. To stay in business and promote their agenda, they have to make money. Non-profits are not owned by anyone and not allowed to distribute profits to anyone but they must make money in order to stay in business. Because, all grants come with strings, I believe all the strings should be published and discussed at city council meetings. Because the strings are established by the grants criteria, local control is given over to whoever manages the grants. Using outside agencies with their put a dot here if you like it philosophy, changes it from true citizen input or would never happen because the most citizens don’t want it and aren’t interested to a sales job from the business putting on the presentation. The public lands trust is winding up their presentation. I would encourage you to google and read the documents “Conservation Easements and the Urge to Rule”. Also, how will funding for the bike trails, walking trails, complete streets impact our streets? Been to Spokane lately? That’s a good example. Ben Franklin said “When the people find that they can vote themselves money that will herald the end of the republic.” We are a republic not a democracy. A democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for dinner. I fear we have slipped into democracy and sheep are on the menu.
