Opposes spring black bear hunting season

Posted

I want to bring to your attention the upcoming spring season of black bear hunting. The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will be voting in November whether to hold a spring black bear hunting season in 2022.

This is a very cruel act as it leaves cubs to die from starvation, predation, or exposure to the elements due after female black bears are killed. During this time, black bears are emerging from hibernation and do not have the strength or the means to outrun hunters. Hunters are taking advantage of the vulnerability and malnourishment of these amazing animals. It is not a fair fight in any way and black bears do not have the ability to defend themselves under these circumstances.
During Washington’s 2021 spring bear hunt a total of 124 bears were killed. This means that an undetermined number of cubs were left to fend for themselves. There is no necessity for this black bear trophy hunting as it does not aid in reducing the amount of human-bear conflicts.
To oppose the 2022 spring black bear trophy hunt season email the Washington commission at 2022Springbear@PublicInput.com and ask that this hunt season not be passed.
