Posted

Organizers of the Chelan Earth Day Fair awarded a $500 scholarship to Ken Gordon for his work with the Lake Chelan Research Institute. The scholarship was presented to Ken on behalf of the Chelan Earth Day Fair committee by members (left to right: Randy Brooks, Anne Brooks, Ken Gordon, Gary Myers and Leslie Myers. The presentation is the result of a scholarship program designed by the group to encourage students interested in environmental studies to further their education and training. Co-coordinator Anne Brooks says, “Without the generous support of our sponsors, we wouldn’t be able to do this, so a big thank you goes out to them”. Gordon is the son of Dick and Taina Gordon, and has had a longtime interest in the lake. During the presentation, LCRI Executive Director Phil Long listed a series of Gordon’s accomplishments that have assisted the institute in many ways. He recently completed the assembly of the BlueROV2, an underwater remotely operated vehicle used by the Lake Chelan Research Institute for exploration and science work in Lake Chelan, and by Sawtooth Geosciences, LLC for commercial work on the lake. Ken is also the Chief Pilot for the ROV, and will assist with upgrading the ROV so it can reach the deepest part of Lake Chelan.
