CHELAN – A winter storm hit all Washington State last week, leaving behind lots of snow on the ground.

In town, Public Works and Parks and Recreation staff were ready to plow away and keep Chelan streets snow free. During the last Chelan City Council meeting, on Feb. 12, the snow plowing crews were recognized by Mayor Mike Cooney.

“While most of us were doing things Friday night our Public Works crew were huddled together figuring out a plan of attack for the snowstorm, thank you Jake and your crew and Karen and your crew,” said Cooney.

The following Public Works employees are involved in the snow plowing efforts: starting with Randy Baker, Mitch Alcala, Saul Bernal, Raul Blanco, David DeArmond, Paul Hunter, Randy Lloyd, Juan Mendoza, Jason Miller, Eric Schultz, Paul Singleton, Heri Virruta and Osvaldo Zarate. Wade Simmons, Chris Zimmerman, Mark Lawrence, Bob Millar, Dan Kicher and Jose Avila from Parks also help maintain the city.

The public also thanked them for their work. “At church on Sunday during the time of prayer for things we are thankful for there were nods across the room when people were talking about waking up in the middle of the night and hearing the snow plows … so I also want to thanks the Public Works crew for that as well,” said John Olson.

Cooney announced the date for the upcoming townhall meeting, it will be on March 7 at the Chelan Senior Center starting at 6:00 p.m. The main subject will be wildfire prevention. The mayor mentioned that they have invited Hillary Franz from DNR and hope she accepts the invitation. During the second portion of the townhall meeting, the community will get a chance to meet local policemen who patrol Chelan’s streets and get to know who they are.

In other business, the council adopted the revision to the Ag-Tourism private roads development standards, the A-Roofing contractor agreement for Don Morse Park shelter roof, the project development services agreement with Gordon Thomas Honeywell and also approved the revised 2019 salary schedule.
