Manson Senior Meals Program celebrates 30 years

Posted

MANSON – The senior meal program celebrated 30 years of bringing the senior community lunch and companionship, Friday, May 4 at North Shore Bible Church.
After expressing concern for the aging community, the program came to fruition May 6, 1988 at North Shore Bible Church and has remained at the location for the entire 30 years. Prior to February of 2014, meals had been provided to the program by various businesses with industrial kitchen capabilities throughout Chelan. In 2014, the church developed a fully functioning kitchen, enabling the preparation of the meals on location. The meals, planned in advance with a license dietitian, feature appealing meals high in nutritional value.
The Senior Meal Program offers so much more than a Friday lunch, explained Volunteer Kathy Miller. The program offers the opportunity for aging group to socialize with other people, she explained, “some have been friends for years and this is the only opportunity for them to visit.”
Manson Senior Meals are served every Friday at 12:00 p.m. at North Shore Bible Church, and home delivery is available for those whose health restricts them from attending. There is a suggested donation of $4 for ages 60 and over, or $8.50 for under 60 years old, unless attending with a spouse who is over the age of 60. Reservations are required by calling 509-687-3377 by noon on Thursday.
