Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign adapts to 2020 realities with drive-through event on Dec. 12

Posted
CHELAN - Like so many things in 2020, the local Salvation Army Red Kettle Holiday campaign will look very different this year. Thanks to the generosity of Campbell’s Resort, the event will be a “drive-through” fundraiser in the Campbell’s parking lot and will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. As always, plenty of bell ringers will be on site bearing Holiday cheer, albeit from a safe distance. Donors will be directed to enter Campbell’s parking lot from Woodin on the Southeast corner of the property and to exit on Manson Highway to the North.  Donations will be touchless, with a large Red Kettle for donations replacing the smaller ones that in past years were placed at Chelan Safeway and Manson Red Apple. Donors will be directed to the supersized Kettle, where they may deposit their donations before picking up breakfast or lunch (available for purchase) from Campbell’s Pub and Veranda should they so choose.
As always, all donations will remain entirely local. The proceeds will assist the clients of Chelan Valley Hope (CVH), who have been particularly challenged in this difficult year of COVID.  Chelan Valley Hope is a grass-roots 501(c)(3) which provides those in crisis with a “hand up, not a hand out,” tailoring a specific plan for each client in need. CVH was established in 2009 in response to a myriad of unserved local needs and is now in its 11th year serving the Chelan Valley. CVH currently serves an average of 700 to 1,000 clients annually, assisting with emergency shelter, housing resources, rent and utility assistance, vouchers for gas and groceries, car repairs, non-food pantry items, warm coats and gloves, and much more. In 2020, CVH has been called upon to assist those disproportionately impacted by the Coronavirus, as well as families who tragically lost homes and possessions during the recent wildfires. As the virus continues to rage, the needs will continue to mount and undoubtedly to overwhelm some of our neighbors. This year’s Salvation Army Kettle campaign seeks to “rescue Christmas” for some of the most vulnerable in our community.
Please plan to “drive through” your donation to the 2020 Red Kettle at Campbell’s on Dec. 12 and take part in some old-fashioned holiday cheer while supporting a worthy cause. And if you’re interested in serving as a volunteer, please contact Kettle Coordinator Julie McCoy at julie@juliemccoylaw.com or 949-422-2819. Planning is underway for a safe event for donors and volunteers alike.
