Step two of affordable housing to be discussed at Council workshop

Posted

CHELAN – Chelan City Councilmembers and staff will be gathering Tuesday, Feb. 6 for a workshop on various upcoming topics throughout the city. The biggest of the topics on the agenda, however, will be the discussion of how to proceed with the lack of affordable housing, after input from January’s town hall meeting.

“The town hall meeting was step one of the affordable housing process,” explained Chelan Mayor Mike Cooney, “the workshop will be step two … discovering what options the City has and how to apply them (successfully).” During the workshop, the comp plan will also be reviewed, analyzing recently updated zoning to plan area possibilities for the placement of housing.

Another important topic during the workshop, and the only actionable item, will be the decision on container size for the new curbside recycling program, which Mayor Cooney has stated he hopes to be ready to have in place by Earth Day 2018.

Mark your calendars to be present for the informative workshop, Tuesday, Feb. 6 beginning at 4:00 p.m. inside Council Chambers.
