Swenson receives 50 year pharmacist award

CHELAN  - John P. Swenson, Chelan resident for 11 years, received the 50 year pharmacist award from the Washington State Pharmacy Association Nov, 19, at their Annual Awards Banquet. John’s career included leadership of health system pharmacy at the local (Seattle Area Society of Health System Pharmacy), state and national level and he was recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists. John was involved in early collaborative practice at University of Washington Hospital regarding prescribing protocols for total parenteral nutrition and antibiotics. 
During his 18 years as Director of Pharmacy at Valley Medical Center, Renton he developed both inpatient and ambulatory pharmacy programs to improve patient outcomes including a home antibiotic infusion program and pain management system. 
After 10 years of doing corporate work (McKesson & Cerner) with electronic medical records for hospitals, John accepted a position at Central Washington Hospital in 2009 as operations coordinator and hospital pharmacy residency coordinator.  
Since his “retirement” in 2013, John continues to work part time at Confluence’s Professional Pharmacy and serves on the Executive Board for Columbia Valley Community Health.  John and his wife Claudia continue to be advocates for strong health care in our community.
