On March 8 the City of Chelan Council heard a presentation from Eric Campbell of Historic Downtown Chelan Assn. about concerns from business owners and citizens about the proposed revitalization of the downtown core. A group has been meeting since last fall to discuss the concerns. The group felt the 200 block of Woodin Avenue could use one additional crossing in the area of the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce. They do not want to lose any parking due to larger bulb outs, new lights are needed, along with better electrical and speakers downtown. They could not come to consensus on sidewalk width. The council voted to instruct staff to develop a Memorandum of Understanding for the Downtown Revitalization Plan between the City of Chelan and the Historic Downtown Chelan Association to develop specifics of the project. There will be opportunity for citizens and businesses, to give input on the project at community meetings. The council also heard a presentation from Julie Pittsinger of Karma Vineyards about her proposal for the Lake Chelan Golf Course food concession called The Albatross. In a special meeting on March 10, the council voted to move forward with her proposal. Around $200,000 will be invested via tenant improvements. Full opening is scheduled for June 6.
