Guild Y's brick sale a hit

Posted

CHELAN - Hospital Guild Y's fundraiser was a popular event among both valley residents and visitors. At last count, 215 engraved bricks were sold at $100 each. The final count was determined at the their monthly meeting when guild members bring in their last brick orders.
Bricks R Us of Miami, Florida will engrave many memorial bricks "IN MEMORY OF. . ." or "TO THE MEMORY OF" followed by the name of a deceased spouse or other beloved person. Some memorial bricks will be engraved in gratitude with the name the EMT or the medical doctor who saved a life.
Several Lake Chelan Valley businesses and civic organizations purchased engraved bricks to pave the patio of the new Orchards Cafe at the soon-to-be completed hospital. The Chelan High School Class of 1960--still an active bunch--also ordered a brick.
Several pioneer families purchased several bricks to reflect their long line of history here in the valley.
Margo Carpenter Howard ordered fourteen engraved bricks and sent a poignant letter with her order.
She was willing to share some of her thoughts:
‘‘I'm so grateful to have an opportunity to honor members of my family that traveled to Chelan by wagon, bought land, started businesses, went to school, built one church (Methodist), helped build another church (Episcopal), and were seen on the roof of another replacing shingles when he was in his late 60's where he was a founding member (Christian). . .
Many more have been born, married, worked, played and been buried here. Carpenter is our name, and it was also the profession of many. . .  One of my father's uncles build a livery stable by the lake on the spot where Campbell's original building still sits.’’
Guild Y is grateful for the opportunity to continue to raise money for the new hospital's patio and outdoor furniture. More importantly, members are happy to offer an opportunity to show support for health care endeavors here in the Lake Chelan Valley.
