It is with sadness we announce that our cherished uncle, Allan L. Riddle, died unexpectedly after a fall while at his family home in Chelan.  Allan was preceded in death by his beloved mother Lorena “Renie,” his brother Gary, and his father William.  He is survived by his half-brother Lamar; and nephew Louis “Fritz” and wife Jen, and their two daughters Callea and Madison; cousins in Davenport, Wilbur and Creston, Washington.  Allan’s friends were his true human connections, including Loren Hill and Cathy Rogers of Vashon, and the numerous people he socialized with while on his many gaming expeditions at casinos around the state.
Allan was born in Chelan during WWII and graduated high school there in 1961.  He received his degree in education from Pacific Lutheran University in 1965 and started teaching at Vashon Elementary in 1966, mostly at the sixth-grade level. He served as VEA treasurer for several years, and was active with the Kiwanis Club and Vashon Senior Center for many years. He also served as a fire commissioner for the Vashon Island Fire District.
After retirement he stayed in contact with many of his students. He was interested in computers and developed a small business consulting with people and helping them choose the right equipment.
Memorial donations in Allan’s name may be made to the maritime nonprofits Virginia V Steamship Foundation and the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority (for the Lady Washington replica sailing ship).
Al, we hope you’re winning every roll at your big craps game in heaven.  You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
