Orville 'Cork' Ott

Orville W “Cork” Ott, age 88 of Manson passed away July 23, 2017. He was

born on September 24, 1928 in Wenatchee, Wash. to Raymond and Vella Ott.

Cork graduated from Ramona High School, Ramona, Calif., class of 1947.  He then

moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he worked for Fairbanks Exploration (FE)

in gold fields and then for the U.S. Postal Service. He married Alice Jane

Bowie of Chelan on July 8, 1950 in Fairbanks where they lived until

returning to Chelan in 1951.

Following Cork and Alice’s return to Chelan, he worked at Valley Hardware

before moving to Manson in 1955 to begin management of the Chelan/Manson

Co-op. In 1964, Cork began a position as a field man/loan officer for

Growers Credit in Chelan. Cork and Alice purchased the Lakeland Ski Shop in

Chelan in 1966, which remained a Main Street landmark until 1975. Cork and

his son, Bill started Northwest Frost Control in Manson in 1976 where he

worked until his retirement in 1996.

Cork was a founding member and past commodore of the Lake Chelan Boat Club.

He was an avid skier, ski instructor, fisherman, hunter, outdoorsman and a

terrific mechanic.  The installation of the television repeater on Slide

Ridge in the 1950’s and the setup of the Poma lift at Echo Valley are two of

the many community projects in which he was involved.

Cork is survived by his wife Alice, son Bill and daughter-in-law Pat of

Wenatchee, daughters Beth of Seattle and Leslie of Manson.  Grandchildren

Scott and Landee Ward of Manson, Matt and Michelle Ott of Wenatchee, Clinton

and Trine DeFries of Seattle, Steve and Hannah Ott of Waterville, Jeff and

Gina Danner of Seattle, Patrick and Burnley Danner of Seattle and seven

great-grandchildren.

Cork had an infectious smile, made friends easily, and loved to laugh. He

will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at

Northshore Bible in Manson.

Donations can be made in his name to the Lake Chelan Boat Club scholarship

fund.
