City of Chelan parks prepare for Memorial Day Weekend

With common sense COVID19 adjustments, guidelines

Posted

CHELAN - Chelan City Parks will welcome visitors for Memorial Day weekend. We anticipate guests from around the state, though perhaps not as many as in years past. With many businesses closed, but short-term rentals open, our parks provide a relatively controlled and spacious environment for households and individuals seeking essential outdoor recreation.

The Stay Home – Stay Healthy Order is still in effect and all provisions of the order should be followed. Visitors should follow all State and CDC guidelines to keep themselves and others safe.

Our popular Lakeside and Don Morse Parks will be open with common sense COVID19 adjustments and guidelines. Our playgrounds will remain closed and roped off. Our tennis courts are closed off and locked, and our volleyball nets will remain down. The skatepark and basketball courts will be available for solo play and for games with people within the same household.  Lakeshore RV Park will remain closed to new guests during phase 1 of the state’s phased approach to re-opening.  Our popular putting course, and go cart course, will be closed, but Shoreline Watersports will offer power boat rentals, and Lake Rider Sports will offer paddle board and kayak rentals. Our food concessionaires will be open.

The Lake Chelan Golf Course opened as soon as legally possible with shifts in operations which allowed it to operate safely within state guidelines. A new software upgrade, approved unanimously by City Council, allows golfers to reserve tee times, check-in, and pay all online or via a mobile ap, thus reducing points of contact with staff. Staff has worked diligently to implement practices to keep golfers safe.

Our local community has shown a remarkably civic-minded approach to our park adjustments; we are encouraging our visitors to also use precautions in alignment with our community standards. Parks and recreation are truly essential for our physical health, mental health, and contribute greatly to our local economy
