Posted

LEAVENWORTH - The Lake Chelan Senior Men’s Golf Club Members held a Field Day Event at the Leavenworth Golf Course on Wednesday, October 2. Sixteen members along with guest, Larry Bonard traveled to Leavenworth to participate in individual and team competitions. Club members not traveling to Leavenworth held unofficial club play at the Lake Chelan Golf Course.

It was chilly at tee time (40 degrees) but by the time the golfers reached the back nine holes it was short sleeve weather. The course was in excellent condition, the greens were mowed short and the scenery playing alongside Icicle Creek was amazing.

The Field Day Captain, Ellis Nierenberg organized the foursomes by the players’ handicap indexes so the groups were nearly evenly matched. With assistance from Dr. Darrell Richards, Ellis prepared all the scorecards in advance of play to reflect each member’s handicap strokes on a hole-by-hole basis.

The game competition results were as follows:

The Low Net Individual Score Contest Winner was Lyle Burns with a net score of 63. Honorable Mentions for the Low Net Individual Score Contest include Ellis Nierenberg (Score 64), Mike Storey (Score 64), Cliff House (Score 65), and Chuck Mallow (Score 65). The Winning Team Members in the Low Net Best Ball Team Score Competition were Mike Storey, Mike Hewitt, Lyle Burns and Tom Fagerholm with a score of 52. Honorable Mention in the Team Competition goes to Members, Cliff House, Bob Matson, Ellis Nierenberg, and Chuck Mallow. The Deuce Pot Game Winner (Players scoring a “2” or better on a hole) was Ellis Nierenberg who chipped in a second shot on a Par 3 hole.

After play the group enjoyed lunch and beverages at the The Wild Huckleberry Restaurant located at the Leavenworth Golf Course. At lunch, Ellis Nierenberg (aka – Mr. Super Volunteer) was thanked by the golfers for his work in organizing the Leavenworth Field Day Event. And, members were encouraged to sign up for the Pink Ribbon Classic Golf Scramble Tournament being held on Sunday, October 20 at the Lake Chelan Golf Course, which provides financial assistance to local cancer support programs.

Golfers age 55 and over are welcome to join the Senior Men’s Golf Club for regular play on Wednesdays at the Lake Chelan Golf Course. The Tee Time for October is 9:30 a.m.
