Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council announces new guidelines for Eviction Rent Assistance

Wenatchee - The Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council has announced new qualifying guidelines for Chelan and Douglas county residents who need financial support for past-due rent or are at risk of being evicted.
 To qualify, individuals and families must have fallen behind in rent payments since March and earn a current income that is at or below 80% of the Area Median Income.
 This is defined as: See Table
 In addition, candidates must have at least one month of rent not paid or partially unpaid since March 1, 2020 and pay more than 30% of their current income in rent.
 Households in Chelan and Douglas counties must also meet at least one of the following additional screening criteria (any member of the household can meet the criteria, it doesn’t have to be the head of household):
• Previously homeless within last five years. This includes experiences of couch surfing/double up
• Eviction history within last three years
• Housing disrupted due to household member race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or religion
• At risk of severe illness as per CDC (65 or older, underlying condition)
Disability of any household member. Includes a physical, developmental, mental, or emotional impairment, including impairment caused by alcohol or drug abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, or brain injury. A person with HIV/AIDS is considered disabled.
 United States citizenship is NOT an eligibility requirement of this program. Individuals and families that have previously received assistance through Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council may qualify for additional assistance. Financial support for up to six months of unpaid rent may be available to qualifying candidates.
 “To date, Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council has been able to support 432 individuals and families through this program with a total of $856,438. The Washington State Department of Commerce has just announced these new qualifying guidelines and provided $275,000 in additional funding to support our region’s demand. We are encouraging everyone who qualifies to apply. If someone is not sure if they qualify, please call our office at (509) 662-6156 for a free, confidential screening.
 The application deadline is December 31, 2020. To apply, contact the Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council office at (509) 662-6156 to schedule an appointment and ask for “Rent Eviction Assistance.”
