Posted

WENATCHEE - The Numerica Performing Arts Center has a full calendar of holiday events this December. Along with the community’s holiday productions, the Numerica PAC presents annual family favorites: LAS POSADAS on December 15, HOLIDAY MOVIES ON THE BIG SCREEN on December 16-18 and OLD TIME RADIO SHOW: MRS. BOB CRATCHIT’S WILD CHRISTMAS BINGE on December 21.

Las Posadas

Las Posadas (translated in English as “the inns”), is a 9-day Mexican Christmas tradition based on the biblical journey of Mary and Joseph. The Numerica PAC Latino Council will be hosting its 2nd annual Las Posadas celebration on December 15 at 6:30pm. Festivities include: Mariachi Huenachi, Danzas Multiculturales, Pinata tradition, and a sing-a-long. Following the program, there will be tamales and refreshments available in the Numerica PAC lobby. This event is free and requires no ticket to attend.

Holiday Movies on the Big Screen

Van Doren Sales presents three holiday movies on the big screen the week leading up to Christmas. Showing on December 16 at 6:30pm is the holiday classic IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (1946); December 17 at 1:30pm and 6:30pm will be a family favorite, THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL (1992); and December 18 at 6:30pm will be the Christmas comedy horror, GREMLINS (1984). Tickets are only $3. This media sponsor for these affordable movie nights is 103.9 KW3.

Old Time Radio Show

Local performers bring MRS. BOB CRATCHIT’S WILD CHRISTMAS BINGE, an irreverent romp through Dicken’s classic Christmas Carol, to the stage in 1940s-style radio hour as it is broadcast live on KOHO 101. From the live sponsor spots, to the use of period microphones, to the sounds effects crew right there with the actors, the result is a nostalgic evening of entertainment from yesteryear, directed by Mark Wavra.

This Christopher Durang comedy is a departure from Dickens, and young Scrooge’s exclamations of “bah, humbug!” are an undiagnosed “kind of seasonal Tourette’s Syndrome,” and The Ghost of Christmas past is played by a sassy women with enough attitude to portray all three spirits (which she does). She tries to show Scrooge his past, present, and future in order to change him, but her magic keeps malfunctioning, and they consistently find themselves transported to the wrong time and place. Mrs. Bob Cratchit, a minor character in the Dickens, takes center stage here. No longer loving and long suffering, Mrs. Cratchit is in a rage, and she wants to get drunk and jump off London Bridge. As the Ghost loses more control, the plot morphs into parodies of Oliver Twist, The Gift of the Magi, and It’s A Wonderful Life.

The public is invited to be part of the live studio audience at the Numerica PAC on December 21 at 7:30pm (must be 5 years of age or older to attend); Tickets are $17-$21. KOHO 101 will also rebroadcast the show on Christmas Eve at 7:30pm on 101.1 FM and online at www.koho101.com. This holiday production is sponsored by KOHO 101, Gil & Kay Sparks, Reida Jones & Tracey Barta, Central Washington Water, Dave & Sandy Gellatly, Sue & Rick Rose, and Smithson Insurance Services, Inc.
