According to an article published on the ‘Natural Society’ website, this enzyme fights inflammation which sooths irritated airways, prevents unhealthy blood clots and “has antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties,” which all work together in successfully soothing a cough by relaxing the airways and combats infection.
What’s the trick to this home remedy? Stay away from processed pineapple juice. Studies have shown that bromelain is destroyed by heat created during processing the juice for distribution. To reap the benefits the pineapple offers, try a juicer instead, or simply eat the fruit whole.

1 Cup fresh (unprocessed) pineapple juice
¼ Cup of fresh lemon juice
1 Piece of ginger (about three inches)
1 Tbsp. raw honey
½ Tsp. cayenne pepper
