PUD CONTRACTOR TO REPAVE ORIGINAL LOT AT OLD MILL PARK STARTING APRIL 2

Closing the boat launch during the work offers safest, fastest, cost-effective way to get job done

MANSON, WA – A Chelan County PUD contractor will rebuild the boat launch parking lot at Old Mill Park after more than 20 years of service. Work will start April 2. For the safety of the crew and park visitors, the boat launch and parking lot will close April 2-May 18.
image003.jpgConstruction Manager Tyler Sellers said evaluation of construction options showed that closing the launch during the parking lot paving offered the safest, fastest and most cost-efficient way to get the job done.
In preparation, Chelan PUD worked with other entities to ensure availability of these alternate launch locations (see attached map):
·         Manson Bay Boat Launch
·         City of Chelan Lakeshore Marina
·         Old Mill Park on Lake Chelan near Manson.Chelan Riverwalk Boat Launch (free)
Construction starts April 2 and will finish by May 18. The project is designed, the contractor selected and materials are ordered to get the work done quickly and safely, Sellers said.
Signs with information about the closure are posted. Chelan Valley residents received details about the project by mail.
The parking lot was built in 1986, and has required constant maintenance and repairs due to aging materials. Contractors rebuilt the north half of the lot in fall 2016, and this will complete the work to improve safety, durability and access to Lake Chelan.
The project includes removing 18 maple trees and planting another variety better suited for conditions when construction is done.
Central Washington Asphalt, Moses Lake, has the contract for the $280,000 repaving.
