Pybus University Winter 2017 Quarter Classes

WENATCHEE - Pybus Market announces its slate of Winter quarter classes every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. from January 17 through March 28, on unique topics for the general public. Classes are free, unless otherwise indicated. Class size is generally limited to 30 people per class. Classes are generally located in front of the Cashmere Valley Bank Community Kitchen. Classes are taught by local volunteers with an interest and aptitude in the subject. The public is invited to register for as many - or as few - classes as they like.

"This idea came from one of our volunteer ambassadors, Jennifer Burke, who selects the topics and recruits all instructors, said Steve Robinson, executive director of Pybus Market. "Prior classes have proven to be a fun and informative way to continue the learning process," said Jennifer Burke, a former educator herself. "I really believe in the saying "learning is a life-long adventure," so that's the intent of Pybus University," added Burke.

• January 17 - "Everything You Wanted to Know About DentalImplants But Were Afraid To Ask"
Presenter: Dr. James K Burnham DDS, MS

• January 24 - "Diet Myths That Keep You Frustrated andOverweight; What You Can Do About It"
Presenter: Dr. Allegra Hart
Debunk the myths that stop you from effortlessly balancing your weight. Learnhow to boost your metabolism naturally, deliciously, and sustainably.
• January 31 - "Wenatchee History: Moving Wenatchee"
Presenter: Rod Molzahn
The city of Wenatchee has settled in three different locations during its lifetime.This discussion focuses on the forces, people and stories behind the three townsites and how Wenatchee ended up where it is. Join us for a fascinating lesson inWenatchee's history.
• February 7 - "Question, Persuade, Refer -Three Simple Steps toHelp Respond to a Person in Need Who May be Suicidal"Presenter: Mike Lynch
This training is designed to teach you how to recognize the warning signs, cluesand suicidal communications of people in trouble, and how to respond, in order toprevent a tragedy. QPR gatekeeper training takes just one hour and is taught in aformat that is clear and concise. The information you gain at this training could provide you the information needed to potentially save someone's life.
• February 14 - "Wine and Romance"
Presenter: Rhett Humphrey, Jones of Washington
"Wine and romance" just seem to go together. No matter what your Valentine's Day plans are, you'll need a bottle of wine. But for some of us, wine can get alittle confusing and even frustrating. Let Jones of Washington help you out withthat! Join us on Valentine's Day to taste wines that are perfect for the chillyweather and also for the romantic holiday. This will be a fun night of learning thebasics of wine terminology, wine appreciation, why wine is romantic and much more! If you are someone who wants to expand your wine knowledge or just havea fun 'date night' for you and your significant other...then this class is for you.
• February 21 - "Intro to Knitting"
Instructor: Marianne Corning and NCW Knitters Guild
Marianne Corning and the knitters from the NCW Knitters Guild are back andready to help you learn to knit or improve your knitting skills. Learn to cast onand cast off, to knit and to purl. Please bring size 7, 8, or 9 needles to class. Allother materials will be provided.Class size limited to 25.
• February 28 - "Honey Bees, Colony Collapse Disorder and NativeBees of Wenatchee Valley"
Instructor: Bob Gillespie
Learn more about the state of the honey bees so important to our valley.
• March 7 - "Hammered Metal Spiral Necklaces"
Presenter: Juliana Marquis
Join artist and jewelry maker Juliana Marquis and learn the basics of hammeredmetal jewelry making. You will learn to manipulate wire into organic formsending in an artistic creation you can wear around your neck. Limited to 15 participants.
• March 14 - "Family Art Night: Print Making"
Presenter: Terry Valdez
Join professional artist Terry Valdez and his fellow art assistants for an evening ofPrint Making explorations. No experience necessary. Ages 5 to 95. No fee.Sponsored by: Terry Valdez Studios & The Grunewald Guild. Limited to 36 participants.
• March 21 - "Mythbusters About Foster Parenting"
Presenter: Hayley Stoebner
This class will dispel many of the myths about who can become a foster parentand answer some common questions about being a foster parent.
• March 28 - "Dahlias: A Garden of Earthly Delights"
Presenter: North Central Washington Dahlia Society
This class will provide a hands-on demonstration of how to plant and care for yourdahlias. We'll talk about how to select dahlias to grow, understanding dahliaterminology and how to interpret a dahlia catalog. Tools, accessories, soilpreparation, staking, labeling and tending will be discussed. Bring your questionsand ideas. Taught by members of the North Central Washington Dahlia Society.Everyone in attendance will receive a free tuber.
