CHELAN - The Chelan FFA Chapter is one of the nine charter members of the Washington State FFA Association and have been around since the spring of 1930.
The Chelan FFA lives the FFA Mission Statement—to develop student potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agriculture education.
Chelan FFA advisor is Bailey Dezellem, who is in her third year at Chelan High School. She has been an FFA advisor for nine years. She is assisted by Breanna Hanson, who is in her fourth years as an advisor.
Chelan FFA has 158 members and anyone in Ag Class is automatically in FFA. Each student can then decide to what level they want their participation to be.
Chapter officers for the 2020-2021 school year are: Aliyah Finch - President, Gunner Gleasman - Vice-president, Casandra Sanchez - Secretary, Arabelle Finch - Treasurer, Kassidy Wilfong - Reporter and Tiernan Davis - Sentinel.
Activities planned for this years FFA week are: Dress up Days throughout the week, teacher and staff appreciation, Greenhand Initiation and Team Relay Competition.
In a normal year, they show at both the Chelan County Fair and the North Central Washington Fair. They also participate in the Sunny OK Cattle Judging, CDE/LDE competitions at the district and state levels, Spokane Ag Show, host Chelan Ag Ed plant Sale, host Hort Day, participate in Earth Day, and try to host a bunch of in-chapter activities for student members.
Any highlights so far this year are: Students who sold through both fairs (although virtually) did get pretty decent prices. The Chelan FFA Alumni hosted a cattle judging competition January 30 with 10 kids competing in person. Tiernan Davis was the top judge. They recently hosted a district “virtual CDE/LDE Jamboree” which Chelan was 2nd team overall and was top three placing both team and individual in every event but two (out of 25 contests). They have also hosted both pumpkin and gingerbread contests for the community.
