Chelan School District focusing on phasing in students for back to school in person instruction

As we continue to navigate the challenges imposed by COVID-19, I would like to thank all of you, including our students and families, our teachers and classified staff, our Board of Directors, and our administrative team – for their hard work and ongoing planning since early August. Remote Learning has been much more successful than this past spring!

 

With data in our county continuing to trend in a positive way, we will be focusing on phasing students back to school for in-person instruction. The decision to return to school for in-person learning is extremely complex involving a multitude of factors on how best to accommodate student return. Our District continues to work closely with Chelan-Douglas Health District (CDHD) officials to ensure we are taking all the necessary health and safety precautions to prepare for in-person learning. The health and safety of our students and staff remains our first priority.

Our schools are in the process of confirming the number of students who will return to school and those who choose to remain on-line. Families opting for their student(s) to remain in an online learning model may do so and will be contacted by the school this week. Beginning with our Pre-K through 2nd grade students, we are scheduled to begin in person learning on October 19th. At this time, it is not recommended that middle and high school students return to in-person learning. We have a tentative timeline for subsequent phases for in person learning that will be dependent upon approval from the CDHD. If at any time, students and staff are not able to return safely, or health district guidelines change, we will communicate plans for how learning will be provided to our students.
