Joey Hurtado accepted to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s Coding for Cancer summer program

CHELAN - Joey Hurtado, Chelan High School junior, has been accepted to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s Coding for Cancer summer program. Coding for Cancer is a highly selective program that connects students with computational biologists, teaches hands-on skills, and how coding and computational tools are used in cancer research.

When asked what he is looking forward to about the program Joey expressed, “I look forward to seeing how two different fields of science that I’m interested in, computer science and health science, interact with one another. Having the opportunity to participate in the program will be helpful as I explore what careers I want to pursue.”

Joey also wanted to share that “what inspired me to actually apply for the internship was Dr. Manthey. At first I was nervous about actually applying because of the fact that I do not have much prior experience or knowledge with either coding or the biology of cancer. It was his encouragement and support that inspired me to apply.”

Congratulations Joey.
