Lake Chelan School District adopts strategic plan

Posted

CHELAN – At its March 27 board of directors’ meeting, the Lake Chelan School District adopted a strategic plan to guide the work of serving students over the next three years. With an updated mission to ensure academic, social, and emotional success for every student, accomplished through engaging and meaningful teaching and learning, dedicated staff, and community engagement, the Lake Chelan School District schools will align building and department plans to operate with a focus on six key areas. The plan will focus on: enhancing student learning, ensuring student safety and well-being, developing staff and operational effectiveness, improving facilities, enhancing early learning opportunities, and increasing community and family engagement. This focus will allow the district to realize its vision of all students and staff achieving, believing in their potential, and contributing passionately to their community.
“Our board is excited to have a plan that ensures all of our students are at the heart of our work and that emphasizes we do whatever is necessary to ensure high levels of student success and positive experiences by removing barriers and emphasizing support,” School Board Chair Kim Thorpe shared. “We believe in each of our students and staff members, and in their ability to achieve and contribute.”
The plan, which was developed over the course of two months utilizing a community forum and six work sessions with twenty-four team members including school board members, educators, parents, and students under the facilitation of nationally renowned educational leader Dr. Gene Sharratt, is founded on six key belief statements developed by the team via a series of work sessions. The publicly shared document includes hyper-links to each of the six focus areas and detailed goal statements with rationale. It also contains metrics, including student achievement data and perception survey data, that the district will use to monitor the progress of the plan.
The plan is available on the district website (www.chelanschools.org) and demonstrates the board’s leadership by having very clear goals for student growth outcomes. Chelan High School art students developed the graphics for the plan.
“This plan will be a great foundational driver in our efforts to serve students at a high level. We are proud that the plan focuses on meeting the needs of our students academically, socially, and emotionally,” shared LCSD Superintendent Brad Wilson. “With a unified commitment from the boardroom to the classroom, we believe our students will indeed become great contributors to our community, and we continue to feel fortunate to have such passionate community and family support.”
Established in 1892, Lake Chelan School District serves nearly 1,275 students with 97 percent of its students graduating in 4 years, according to data provided by OSPI. The district's headquarters is located at 309 E. Johnson Ave., Chelan, WA 98816. Telephone: 509-682-3515, please follow on Facebook, Instagram, or view the LCSD website at: www.chelanshools.org
