Manson Grange Youth Fairs program elects officers

Posted

MANSON - The Manson Grange “Youth Fairs” is off to a great start with several families participating in the program. At our second monthly meeting of the year, a big step was completed with the election of youth officers. Leading the Manson “Youth Fairs” program for 2023 are Chair - Emilia, Co-chair - Katelyn, Secretary - Kendal and Treasurer - Eli.
Grange members, Terrie Carleton and Norm Manly took on the challenge of starting the Youth Fairs program at the Manson Grange a year ago. This program is similar in format to 4-H and FFA and open to youth, ages five to 19. According to Terrie, “When Norm started this process, I jumped in to help get the program started because of the benefits that 4-H and FFA provided my own children. Both my boys developed leadership qualities and learned public speaking skills through these valuable programs.”
Norm stated that, “Youth Fairs is a family-oriented program that involves both children and their parents. We have a great group of parents willing to assist with projects, fundraisers and community service, as well as helping the youth members develop their various talents and skills, while promoting agriculture. Terrie and I will eventually be the cheerleaders as parents and youth take control of the program. We’re definitely off to a great start.”
Most of the students have picked project(s) for this year. Record books for “large animal”, “small animal” and “other” still life projects were handed out at the meeting. Anything that can be shown at the fair are considered projects; quilting, woodworking, sewing, photography, etc. Youth will work on their project throughout the year and display their projects at the Chelan County Fair and NCW Fair in Waterville later this year.
The Youth Fairs program is an amazing program for youth from five to 19. The Youth Fair program provides an opportunity for young Grange members to participate in an educational setting, designed to increase confidence, strengthen character, learn valuable life skills and teach the importance of self-discipline. The program encourages learning opportunities for all members.
Our next meeting is set for April 17, starting at 6 p.m. at the Manson Grange. If you would like more information, you can visit the Grange website at www.mansongrange.com or contact Norm Manly at 509-293-0225 or email normmanly@yahoo.com
