PATEROS – A changing of the guard of sorts occurred on the Pateros School Board last month as board president Grace Larsen handed over the reins to board member Chad Miller who was elected by unanimous vote to a one-year term as new board chair.
Board member Marc Armstrong was elected to a one-year term as vice chair by unanimous vote and board member Mark Ward was elected to a two-year term as the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) legislative director.
Mark Ward was elected WSSDA Legislative Representative for a two-year term by unanimous vote.
In other board developments all observations for Semester 1 are complete and in the books. The school’s newest teachers have been observed two times during this first semester. Pateros School District elementary teachers and students are finishing their 11th week of going to school full-time
The Associated Student Body (ASB) council organized holiday activities so both cohorts had some fun things to do. Dress up days were enjoyed by students and staff, Christmas Kahoot in gym at lunch, virtual scavenger hunt, hot chocolate, candy canes, and cookie stations were set up (with social distancing in mind).
Students are anxiously waiting for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) to open some sports activities.
All seniors are being monitored for June graduation. A few need to buckle down and finish this semester on a good note. Some credit retrieval classes need to be completed as well. Standings will be reviewed at semester’s end and letters sent home to parents with any apparent problems on the horizon.
The SIT Team committee continues to meet weekly and devise academic help and strategies to help struggling students.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s K-9 unit and Brewster Police Department K-9 unit teamed up on a sweep of the school campus for illegal drugs. All Clear.
