School is in session at North Shore Christian School

MANSON - North Shore Christian School (NSCS) was founded with the goal, to educate and empower students, to reach their fullest potential. To encourage compassionate, creative, and responsible, Christ-following children and future leaders of our community. NSCS opened its doors to students on September 6, offering education from kindergarten to first grade.
“It has been a long time coming, said NSCS Board Vice-president Kelsey Chavez. The NSCS board has worked tirelessly towards the goal of offering education for the children of our community, where Christ is centered. We have an amazing first year cohort of 12 students. Our class size is small and manageable, allowing us to incorporate many varied learning experiences. Aside from the necessary and needed core subjects, we have also added chapel, cooking classes, walking outings to the Manson Library, field trips to local businesses, Spanish class, quarterly plays, musicals and concerts. By providing our students with all of these opportunities in a loving and caring environment, children will be able to cultivate characteristics of confidence, gumption and a strong moral compass. We anticipate these skills to grow within our students, bringing great value to our community and its members.”
North Shore Christian School is located at 123 Wapato Point Parkway in Manson, on the North Shore Bible Church’s campus. NSCS operates as a Washington State Nonprofit Organization with six board members who oversee all aspects of the school. Current members of the board are: Hillary Belton, president; Kelsey Chavez, vice-president; Brooke Marshlain, secretary; Allie Hoyt, Josh Saunders and Laura King.
“We will be expanding our school next year. Our goal is to expand by one grade level every year until sixth grade. We are thrilled to be able to grow within the North Shore Bible Church facility. They are equally as excited to watch the growth and help expand this needed realm of education within our community,” Kelsey went on.
“One of the most important tasks for the NSCS Board was securing a teacher that would not only meet Washington State requirements but also NSCS’s standards. “We feel blessed to report Kiley Dixon fits both those requirements and much more. She is a graduate of Central Washington University where she obtained a bachelor's degree in education and a minor in special education,” Kelsey stated.
I met with Kiley to learn more about her and check out the classroom. “I grew up in the country in Quincy, with my mom, dad, one sister and lots of animals. As a family, we enjoyed camping and boating. We attended church each Sunday at the Christian Reformed Church, where I was involved in a girls group called Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS). I attended Quincy schools my entire school career. Even as a high school student, I enjoyed working with kids. As one of my high school electives, I volunteered in elementary classrooms and helped students with their assignments.
Soon after graduation, I married my husband Whit and we decided to start a family. After our first daughter, Paisley (now 13) was born, I started substitute teaching at schools around the Quincy area. I found elementary kids were definitely my favorite age to teach.  In 2011, my husband secured a job at Chief Joseph Dam in Bridgeport, and we moved to Chelan. Between then and 2017, I was busy being a mom, taking some time away from teaching. Whit and I added two boys to our family, Heston (now 7) and Lane (now 10). Once the kids were in school, I was offered a job helping at my kids’ preschool, “The Learning Corner”, with Tammy Hunter. I worked for Tammy for four years and had the opportunity to learn so many amazing things from her 20 plus years of experience.
After the pandemic, The Learning Corner was asked to add a kindergarten class to their program. I was thrilled to fill that position. This year, I decided it was time for me to try something new by taking a teaching position at North Shore Christian School. As a teacher and mom of three, I find passion in helping children learn and navigate their daily lives. I am excited to be a part of this amazing new school,” Kiley concluded.
Kelsey Chavez passed along, “We have wonderful scholarship opportunities for those in our valley who qualify. If you are feeling called to have your child attend North Shore Christian School but need some financial assistance, our scholarship program is perfect for you. Have your child attend North Shore Christian School on both partial and full coverage scholarships. We have multiple scholarship positions available for this coming school year and hope to increase the number offered every year.”
North Shore Christian School was established so students, from all backgrounds would have a Christian education that would transform their lives and positively contribute to society. In order for NSCS to grow, and offer our children and staff wonderful opportunities, we need the generosity of countless community members and businesses. NSCS is operating as a Nonprofit Organization, which allows their generous donors to claim a tax deduction. All donations remain anonymous.
