Virtual NCW STEM Showcase

- The NCW Tech Alliance and the Apple STEM Network launched the NCW Virtual STEM Showcase on April 11 and runs through Friday, May 6. The Virtual STEM Showcase is a unique opportunity for students to highlight the ways they are using science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in their K-12 education.  

The showcase is a fun opportunity for K-12 students and educators from across the region to share individual or classroom based STEM projects that students have been working on during the 2021-2022 school year. This year’s event has been generously sponsored by FocalPoint Educational Services and Chelan Douglas School Retirees’ Association.

There is no cost to participate and students can submit as many project submissions as they like. Community members are encouraged to vote for their favorite challenges over the six week period. Individual projects are eligible to win a $50 VISA gift card, and group or classroom projects are eligible to win a $200 VISA gift card. Project submissions are divided into two categories: K-5 and 6-12 grade. Individual and group winners will be determined in each age category. Since 2013, the NCW Tech & STEM Showcase has been an annual opportunity to highlight the ways in which students and educators are utilizing technology and STEM in the classroom to the community. Wenatchee School District initially started the event and as the size and demand to showcase grew; NCW Tech Alliance was given the opportunity to take it over and expand participation to all 29 school districts in North Central Washington. Past Showcases featured K-12 presenters, projects, and innovations from all age ranges and abilities. The event has been virtual since 2020, but plans to return to an in-person event next year are already underway.  

Any K-12 students in North Central Washington can enter a project. In order to qualify to win, students simply have to submit their project through the Apple STEM website. All projects are then displayed online for public vote. Using the hashtag #TechMeOutNCW, students (and parents) are also encouraged to post completed projects on social media for more visibility. Now more than ever, the organizers of this event would like to take the opportunity to highlight, celebrate and engage students, educators, and local families who are utilizing Technology and STEM in both their learning.
