Historic Chelan church featured in Manson Library art exhibit

Posted

MANSON — The Manson Community Library is hosting a new art exhibit featuring St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, the first building constructed on Woodin Avenue in Chelan.

The display on the library's art wall includes photographs, drawings, and paintings of the historic church. Built in 1897, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Karl Gunnar Malmgren from the architectural firm Cutter & Malmgren of Spokane designed the church.

The church was constructed using logs floated down from the upper part of Lake Chelan. Shortly after its completion, a cabin was built next door, where Kelly's Hardware now stands, to house the minister and his family.

Visitors interested in learning more can read "If These Logs Could Talk," an award-winning book by Elizabeth Watson Perry. The book is available for purchase at the Lake Chelan Historical Society Museum and can also be borrowed from NCW Libraries.

The Manson Community Library is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
