CHELAN – Incumbent Mike Steele continues to show a commanding lead in the primary race for the State Representative seat representing Washington's 12th District.
As of the August 9 count, Steele received an overwhelming 80.04% of the votes in Chelan County, with 10,187 ballots cast in his favor. His Republican opponent, Daniel Scott, trailed significantly with 16.1% of votes, equating to 2,049 ballots.
The 12th District, which encompasses parts of Chelan, Snohomish, and King counties, showed even stronger support for Steele district-wide. Across the entire district, Steele garnered 86.37% of the votes, while Scott received 27.06%.
Steele was elected to the Washington House of Representatives in 2017.
Both Steele and Scott are running on the Republican ticket, making this a notable intra-party contest.
Election officials anticipate the next ballot count to be released on August 20 at 2:30 p.m., which may provide further clarity on the final outcome of this primary race.
