Tigers bring their experience, speed to a new season

Posted

ENTIAT – The Tigers kept themselves busy by hosting their own training camp during the summer, participating in other camps and tournaments and having scrimmages with other schools nearby.

“They had a really great summer to prepare for the season,” said head coach Brian Bailey.

The number of players in the team have increased, “we will have 25 … this year we are mostly juniors and seniors, we have six nine graders which have been a great surprise.”

With seven starters back on offense and seven back on defense the Tigers are “a pretty experienced team.”

“This year and next are the two that we have been working towards. A lot of these guys started as ninth graders, the last two years they have been getting experience, we think we can compete for a league title and a good playoff run .. those are our goals,” said Bailey.

The coaching staff has been together for a long time and the students are very comfortable with their coaches, “things are very consistent.”

“We have all the traits you would want in a team,” said coach Bailey. However, the Tiger’s are in search of an emotional leader as Bailey calls it.

The team is fast and experienced,  “we have been to the playoffs the last two years with this group, they just haven’t had a ton of success there yet, we are close.”

So far the Tigers are 2-1, “I think we have the potential to be the top four or five in the State, if we can get to the semifinals, quarter finals … a lot of kids have mention they want to make the semis, so that’s what we are pushing for.”
