WENATCHEE – The Wenatchee Bighorns faced a narrow defeat in their season opener against the Seattle Super Hawks, with a final score of 106-103. Tremont Robinson-White led the team with 29 points, while Gavin Long, coming off the bench, added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Bench players Massi Boye Jeanneau-Mubiala and O’Landa Baker each scored 10 points, contributing to the close contest.

Head Coach JP Davis expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, highlighting the collective scoring effort and significant contribution from the bench. "I’m proud of our team effort," Davis remarked. "Every player scored and had 50 points from the bench. That’s a sign of a good team. I’m pleased with how we competed with the short prep defending champ, but we need to learn to put in a full 48 minutes."

The Bighorns are gearing up for their home opener scheduled for Saturday at 7:00 p.m., followed by another game on Sunday at 6:00 p.m., both to be held at the Chelan Community Gym, 309 E. Johnson Avenue, Chelan, which has been designated as the home court for the 2024 season.

Davis also expressed enthusiasm about playing in an environment that nurtures a community-based team, reminiscent of his high school days. The team aims to strengthen the bond with the City of Chelan and continue the area's basketball legacy.

Tony Callero, Chelan High School’s head boys basketball coach, has been appointed as the Bighorns Assistant Coach. Callero’s involvement began with assisting in gym logistics and evaluating during training camp, where he and Davis quickly formed a strong connection. "Coach Davis and I immediately developed a rapport. He is a tremendous coach and each day is an opportunity for me to broaden my basketball knowledge," Callero stated.

The team, consisting of players from across the United States and Canada, anticipates the community's support in their upcoming games. Tickets are available for purchase online or at the door, with prices set at $10. The Chelan Community Center will open its doors 30 minutes before tipoff, and fans are advised that cash payments will not be accepted. Additionally, games can be streamed with a TBL-TV subscription.
