Bonnie (Cederblom) Aston

Posted

Bonnie (Cederblom) Aston of Chelan, Washington passed away February 26, 2023 at home with her three daughters by her side. Bonnie was born January 5, 1938 in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho to Les and Blanche Cederblom. In 1938 the Cederblom family moved to Omak, Washington. Bonnie was very gifted on the piano and played for various organizations. She was versatile and played drums in the high school band. Even though the family did not own horses, Bonnie became Omak Stampede Princess in 1956 on a borrowed horse. She graduated from Omak High School in 1956.

She married Emmit Aston Jr. on June 15, 1957 in Omak, Washington. The newlyweds started a family in Seattle while Emmit finished pharmacy school at the University of Washington. In May of 1960, they made beautiful Lake Chelan, Washington their home, where they raised three daughters. In May of 1967, Bonnie and Emmit bought Kier Drug in Chelan and changed the name to Aston Drug Center. It was a family operated business where Bonnie and Emmit worked side by side for 24 years.

During this time in Chelan, Bonnie was active in the Aqua Junior Women's Club. She also worked on the election board for the City of Chelan and was a board member for the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce. Bonnie enjoyed sewing and cooking for her girls and passed these skills on.

As the family's love of animals grew, they all joined the Chelan Rustlers. Bonnie was very involved with the Chelan Rodeo and the Chelan Caballeros 4-H club where she was a 4-H Leader. Her involvement expanded when she became a board member on the Chelan-Douglas County 4-H Leaders Council. There were many good memories for Bonnie taking the 4-H members to horse shows, riding clinics, trail rides and various county fairs.

In June of 1973, the family bought a ranch 12 miles north of Chelan. They all enjoyed the ranch life and had fun raising various animals to include: dogs, cats, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and the list does not end there!

Bonnie and Emmit sold the pharmacy in June, 1991. The business was transformed into Aston's Gifts Cards Etc. where Bonnie enjoyed working until her retirement in 2010.

One of the highlights of Bonnie's life was becoming a grandmother. The first, a granddaughter was born in April 1994 followed by twin boys two years later. Over the years, she collected toys, childrens furniture and decorations that she kept at the store waiting for the day she became a grandmother. She sure loved to talk about her grandchildren.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years Emmit and her two brothers Conlyn and Merwin Cederblom. She is survived by her three daughters, Cindy Aston Coonfield, Laura Ruess and Michele Aston Lockrem, her sister Nancy Koller, three grandchildren Laurel Williams, Conrad and Emmit Ruess and two great-grandchildren Ivy and Stetson Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Confluence Health Hospice, Dr. Tobe Harberd of CVCH Chelan and Valueplus Medical Supply Wenatchee for their tender care.

A Celebration of Life for Bonnie Aston and her brother Merwin Cederblom will be held October 7, 2023, at the Chelan Senior Center, 534 East Trow Ave., Chelan starting at 2 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, donations to any humane society, animal rescue group or animal fostering program is welcome.
