Early morning fire damages the Apple Cup Café

Posted

CHELAN—At around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, Chelan Fire and Rescue responded to reports of smoke coming from The Apple Cup Café in Chelan. On arrival, fire crews confirmed an active fire in the storage area that was rapidly spreading into the attic.

The concealed attic spaces made it challenging for firefighters to access and extinguish the blaze. Additional alarms were struck, bringing mutual aid from surrounding fire departments, including Chelan County 5 (Manson), Wenatchee Valey Fire Department, Douglas County Fire District 4 (Orondo), Cashmere Fire, and Chelan County Fire District 6.

After an extensive operation, the fire was ultimately brought under control. However, the popular café sustained significant damage and will remain closed until further notice.

No injuries were reported, but Assistant Fire Chief Shawn Sherman said the cause of the early morning fire is still under investigation.

In a Facebook post, the owners of The Apple Cup Café expressed gratitude to the community members who reported the smoke and the firefighters who responded. They said, "We don't have the words right now to express our deepest gratitude," while confirming that the coffee stand is still open and operating regular hours.
